Chicken Cheese Garlic Bread with Honey Butter

Chicken cheese garlic bread is the snack that disappears first at any party. Caramelised garlic chicken is piled onto buttery toasted bread, buried under mozzarella and finished with a drizzle of warm honey butter.

There's no garlic to peel or chop. All the garlic flavour comes from one pack of Smoked Sweet Garlic, with no extra spices.

Ingredients for chicken cheese garlic bread

  • 250–300 g boneless chicken
  • 1 pack Smoked Sweet Garlic
  • 40 ml water
  • 1 tbsp melted butter, for the marinade
  • 1 long soft bread loaf (French loaf or a 10–12 inch sub roll)
  • 3 tbsp softened butter, for the bread
  • 150 g mozzarella or pizza cheese, grated
  • Honey butter: 2 tbsp honey, 1 tbsp butter, 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Chopped coriander or parsley, to finish (optional)

How to make chicken cheese garlic bread

  1. Cut the chicken. Cut it into small 1 cm pieces so they sit flat on the bread. Pat dry.
  2. Coat it in Smoked Sweet Garlic. Mix the blend with 40 ml water and the melted butter into a smooth paste. Toss the chicken through and marinate for 15 minutes.
  3. Cook the garlic chicken. Cook in a pan with a little butter over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring, until the edges caramelise and nothing is pink inside. Keep the heat at medium: the sweet marinade chars fast. Air fryer: 200°C for 10–12 minutes, shaking halfway.
  4. Make the honey butter. Warm the honey, butter and lemon juice for 30–60 seconds until glossy. Toss half of it through the hot chicken.
  5. Assemble the garlic bread. Split the loaf lengthwise and spread the softened butter on both cut sides. Layer half the cheese, then the chicken, then the rest of the cheese.
  6. Bake until bubbling. Oven at 200°C for 8–10 minutes, or air fryer at 180°C for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese bubbles and the edges turn golden.
  7. Finish and slice. Drizzle the remaining honey butter, scatter the herbs and slice thick.

Tips for the best chicken garlic bread

  • Cheese under and over the chicken. The bottom layer glues the chicken down; the top layer gives you the pull.
  • Slice thick. Two-finger slices hold together and stretch best.
  • Medium heat only. Sweet marinades burn before they cook through on high heat.
